A few weeks back in March I had the pleasure of photographing the young British composer / conductor Richard Miller professionally once again, as part of an exciting mix between lifestyle portraits and event photography.

Having met Richard a few years ago, our first collaboration happened when he first took on the conducting role from his senior Pablo Urbina, for the fantastic Royal College of Music Student Film Orchestra.

On this occasion we met for his lunchtime concert with St Cecilia Ensemble at the very central St James's Church in Piccadilly. Richard and his fellow musicians represented their conservatoire beautifully, performing a lovely program of French music as well as two world premieres in front of a full-house, captivated audience.

The behind-the-scenes access to their rehearsal hours before the actual event, made our collaboration even more special. The rays of sun peaking through the church windows, the isolated notes here and there, the harmony of sounds mid-performance - such a dream for any event / classical music photographer! Nothing like that intimacy between you and your artist subjects at work: the chemistry, the interactions, the subtle glances, the lively chatter or laughter in between pieces... what a wonderful opportunity to capture it all candidly!

All of a sudden musician portraits take contour, either individual or group shots, but it's all natural and unposed, therefore results are just genuine and full of emotion, so I am happy to finish the gig on that confident note... Later on the verdict comes: Richard seems to love my work yet again, which must be one the best feelings in the world!

Is there need to say that I am looking forward to his next concert and of course, our next photoshoot?!
